Be a Life Traveler

Mexican 2
My brother and me with a traveler from Mexico, wearing his sombrero.

I was born and raised in the countryside of Japan in 1970s. Of course, there was no internet back then and international knowledge from around the world was exceedingly limited. Despite the lack of understanding of the outside world, I was always fascinated about different civilizations, especially Western culture. I always imagined what kind of world lay beyond my small hometown and even the shores of Japan, an island nation which had been isolated from the rest of the world for so long.

One day, when I came back from school, my mother gave me special U.S stamps. They were omiyage (souvenirs) from her friend who had just gone to America for her business trip. When I saw the stamps, I determined that someday when I grew up, I would travel to many countries and meet many people and see interesting scenic landscapes. Continue reading

Winter Morning

Look at the birds of the air. They neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns,
and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.
Are you not of more value than they?
Matthew 6:26

Though your sins are like scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow.
Though they are red like crimson,
they shall become like wool.

Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow,
for tomorrow will be anxious for itself.
Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Happy New Year 2018!

NarrowBamboo 2018

Today is just a continuation of yesterday, but we like a new start. I am sure you have some New Year’s resolutions. Every year, I see many new faces when I go to the gym, but by March, these new people have disappeared. Yes, we all fully intend to follow through, but our determination may not be enough. Breaking old habits and establishing new patterns is not easy. I have my lists of New Year’s resolutions also. In fact, every year they are the same. But this one is my lifelong resolution:

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33 ESV)

May your year 2018 be blessed by God’s grace and mercy!
